Capacity Planning Exercise

tape measureFollowing on from the initial Consultation Service, or as a separate offering, the Capacity Planning Exercise is designed to gather factual information about your current infrastructure in readiness for the Infrastructure Planning Workshop.

The delivery of the Capacity Planning Exercise is broken down into three distinct service engagements.  Firstly, after setting the objectives of the exercise, Maywood Solutions would install the workload profiling tool into your environment in order to capture the resource information.  At no point during the exercise is any data examined and so security and integrity of data remains intact.

After the period of 30 days elapses, the captured data will be collected and the workloads analysed.  As part of the analysis the profiling tool will also collect details of the hardware configurations and applications to assist in the Infrastructure Planning Workshop phase, making recommendations as to suitable candidates for virtualisation.

The concluding part of the Capacity Planning Exercise is to present the findings to the customer in the form of a detailed report.  It would detail the findings measured against the objectives set out at the beginning of the engagement, in depth and concisely, but without the use of technical jargon.cog  Example Core CPE Objectives:

  • Identify the optimal virtual infrastructure
  • Provide modelling information
  • Identify anticipated savings
  • Recommend storage capacity
  • Recommend suitable hardware platforms
  • Provide detailed project plan

As part of the Virtual Infrastructure Deployment Methodology, the Capacity Planning exercise concludes with the delivery of a summary report and presentation which are both designed to demonstrate how a potential virtual infrastructure would look, customised for your environment, and the actual cost savings that can be realised by deploying this technology.

The report produced is a working document, and in partnership with the customer it will evolve during the Infrastructure Planning Workshop phase and provides a detailed insight into your current infrastructure allowing you to plan the foundations of your strategy for deploying virtual infrastructure.
